Good article Nick! Not to worry, there are quite a few photographers for whom the only way to get clients is to pay somebody to “recommend” them.
You don’t want to deal with such vendors like this venue, as they don’t care about the quality of anybody’s work, but only about getting more money for themselves.

Venues “recommending” inadequate photographers is my number one frustration at the moment! Can’t get my head around why they can’t see the benefit (for everyone) in recommending on merit. Just means I hear more stories about how the photographer messed up somebody’s wedding.

That’s shocking Nick, I can’t believe that they wouldn’t even put a credit on there and recommend you. I’m surprised to find that such a prestigious venue did this as well, you’d think they’d know better.

Interesting post Nick. Seems to happen quite a bit…and said venue is known for being, shall we say, a little money hungry?! I really don’t like the idea of venues and suppliers recommending you because they will get some money for it, hardly a ringing endorsement of your abilities is it? Shame you didn’t get a response.

Once again you have delighted us with your fabulous work (you covered our wedding at Hambleton Hall in January 2010). Consequently there was no hesitation in booking you for the wedding of my daughter Sarah Hemingway to Dinesh Sathianathan at Belvoir Castle on the 8th of October 2011.
You captured the magic of the occasion and venue with such skill and sensitivety, giving us a wonderful record of their special day. The quality of the photographs and video is outstanding ! We are now able to enjoy scenes and special moments, unseen on the day, due to your intuitive and caring approach.
Just to update you, Sarah & Dinesh managed to see the sun rise from the summit of Kilimanjaro on their honeymoon and are now about to move into their new home.
