Vix & Tone are one of those couples you just want to do the best for. I felt like I knew them well by the time their wedding came around. We’d had a meeting at their home and another at the Chequered Skipper to finalise the details over a few pints and it was clear we were going to have a great day. Thankfully after weeks of rain the sun finally shone on their wedding day and Vix & Tone were blessed with a bright spring day.
I was a bit nervous about photographing this wedding because I knew Vix & Tone wanted a very easy going, fun, intimate wedding, and a very unobtrusive approach from me. I do prefer working in the background rather than directing proceedings but it has to be said it’s not easy to strike that perfect balance between capturing everything without interfering. And anyway it’s impossible to know what a couples interpretation of ‘very unobtrusive’ is. The last thing I want to do is provide an incomplete portfolio but then again I hate the thought of being a nuisance. I’ve found over the years that the best approach is to keep monitoring the couples reaction to you as the day goes on and if I feel I’m over doing it I back of a little.
So I set out to capture Vix & Tone’s wedding day in a pure photojournalistic style and hoped I could persuade them to let me have a few moments with the two of them for a mini photo-shoot. We left it a bit late and used the very last few minutes of sunlight to capture some very natural shots which was well worth it. Vix & Tone wanted to get back to the party swiftly afterwards and who could blame them.
Now that I’ve had time to edit Vix & Tone’s wedding photographs I’m happy that I achieved a good balance between covering their day without interfering and will be providing Vix & Tone with a fantastic collection of photographs to tell the story of their wedding day. I’m particularly pleased with the mini shoot where we grabbed the very best and last of the light from the day and captured so many great shots in just 15 minutes. I’m also very happy that I managed to capture some very intimate emotional moments between Vix & Tone and also their close family which I know they will love!
Many thanks to all the staff at The Chequered Skipper who did a great job as always.
