Fotheringhay Church is easily my favorite church to photograph weddings. Not just becasue I won an International Award with a photograph from this great venue – just thought I’d mention it! But because it is a remarkable church steeped in history and one I’ve known since my childhood. I used to cycle to Fotheringhay from the next village along what we would call the ‘bunny run’ with my brothers on our first adventures together. You can walk here too across fields along the river Nene and Fotheringhay itslef has to be one of the most beautifl villagers in England. Nicola and Adam booked me for their wedding almost 2 yeasr earlier because they knew I get booked up very early.
Nicola works at the Marriott Hotel in Peterborough and we had met a number of times at weddings over the years. She liked what she saw at previous weddings and that is increasingly how we get our bookings these days. Recommendations speak volumes and now that there are a million wedding photographers to choose from it’s a satisfying way to get new work. Back to the Church- Fotheringhay curch is big and impressive, light and bright relative to most churches, and there is plenty of room to discreetly move around. There is also a marvelous walk from the main gate to the church entrance where I always fill my boots with dramatic photographs of the bride arriving and the couple leaving the venue.
The reception wedding venue was the Queens Head in Nassington just a few miles if that down the road. I’ve not shot a wedding here before but it’s another village pub I’ve frequented many times. The staff were excellent and the Wedding Breakfast was laid out just how Nicola had wanted it. I could tell straight away that Nicola was a little camera shy and that’s probably one of the reasons why she booked me because she knows I’m incredibly discreet. As the ceremony approached I could see she looked a little terrified at times too but as soon as she saw Adam her whole face lit up with happiness. It sounds a little soppy here and now but at the time it was really sweet to see her expression change so dramatically and again I filled my boots with lots of shots of the bride beaming on her wedding day.
After the ceremony I only had a few formal groups to capture at the church before we headed down to the river to capture some nice intimate moments of the two of them together before we headed to the wedding reception venue. The rest of the day was calm and relaxed- drinks in the garden and down by the river followed by a lovely wedding breakfast, speeches, and off course the first dance. The first dance was performed by my good friend on the wedding circuit Murray Hockridge. You may have seen him on The Voice recently!
Nicola and Adam are clearly very much in love and many times throughout the day they only had eyes for each other. It was very sweet to witness and once again I feel privileged to be involved in their wedding day and hope their wedding photographs adequately express their emotions of the day.
